Ask a Dog Vet and Get Answers to Your Dog Health Questions
Hi, I can help you with your question today.
No, Animax is NOT for use in eyes. You are correct to think that she likely needs a topical antibiotic, however. She will need medication specifically formulated for eyes prescribed to treat this issue.
Until you are able to get her to your regular vet, warm compresses with a towel will help her stay comfortable and avoid the discharge caking on her eyes.
Without being able to do a fluorescein stain, we cannot apply anything with a topical steroid. For empiric therapy of conjunctivitis in dogs, we generally choose neomycin/polymixin/bacitracin or gentamicin.
