Hi, this is Dr. Gabby. The only over the counter pain medication you can give him is aspirin.
The dose is 5 mg per pound every 12 hours.
Give it with food to help prevent gastrointestinal upset.
If you have to give it every day or long term he will need to have blood work done to check his liver and kidney function. Aspirin can affect the liver and kidneys is used long term.
If his liver and kidneys have issues the vet could prescribe something that would be more safe.
How does that sound?
No that is all there is over the counter. If you take him to the vet there are many more options that are prescription.
