Customer Question

We have a 5-6 month old heeler puppy. Do they ever suddenly develop a bump on their head between the ears? She lives inside and is always with us.

Hello, my name is***** and I have over 20 years of experience as a veterinarian. I understand that you are concerned about a bump on your puppy's head located between her ears.

This isn't something that we would normally expect to see on any puppy. I have some questions for you.

  1. Is the lump under the skin or part of the skin?
  2. Does it feel well attached to underlying tissues or is it freely moveable?
  3. Is her fur over the lump normal or is there fur loss?
  4. Is it growing in size or did it pop up and has stayed the same size?
  5. How big is it? Can you see it easily or only feel it?
  6. How quickly did it develop? (days, overnight, hours?)
  7. Does she have other animals that she plays with?
  8. Is the lump soft or very firm?
  9. Is it painful to the touch?
  10. Is she running a fever, or lethargic or dose she seem totally normal otherwise?
