In order for me to help you better, I'd like to ask a few questions...

Expert:  Dr. Jo replied 1 year ago.

You said she is four years old. Is she otherwise healthy? Does she take any medications?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
no
Expert:  Dr. Jo replied 1 year ago.

Is she eating and drinking okay? No vomiting or diarrhea?

Expert:  Dr. Jo replied 1 year ago.

You said no. Does that mean she is not healthy otherwise?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Very Healthy and no medications
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
not eating too much, drinking, no vomiting, no diareah
Expert:  Dr. Jo replied 1 year ago.

To make sure I understand, we're talking about a 4-year-old shih tzu who's always been healthy before whose nose is turning from black to pink and has a decreased appetite. Is that correct?

Expert:  Dr. Jo replied 1 year ago.

Based on that information, there are few different possibilities. I'll list them below...

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
but it is not her nose, it is the skin under her nose, like the skin between her nose and upper lip
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Her appiteite was fine until today
Expert:  Dr. Jo replied 1 year ago.

Got it.

  • inflammation or injury and the associated swelling, redness, and scarring
  • infection... bacterial or fungal
  • autoimmune disease (things like pemphigus and lupus)
  • tumors can also occur in this location, but they are not as common in such a young dog

Does this help to answer your question?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I don't see where it is listed
Expert:  Dr. Jo replied 1 year ago.

Can you see it now?

Expert:  Dr. Jo replied 1 year ago.

Expert:  Dr. Jo replied 1 year ago.

What can I do for her this evening???
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I did not get a response yet
Expert:  Dr. Jo replied 1 year ago.

How long has it been there?

Is it bothering her?

It's difficult for me to make any recommendations for what you can do for it at home without knowing what it is. I want to be helpful in providing information, but this is not a substitute for medical care. If you want to know what to do for her, you'll need to take her to the vet to find out what it is. Then the vet can prescribe appropriate treatment.

Until then, I would advise you avoid giving any aspirin or anything over the counter (like aspirin) because you can do more harm than good. Outside of bathing her and applying a cold compress there isn't anything else you can do at home.

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
Ok, will put cold compresses thank you
Expert:  Dr. Jo replied 1 year ago.

Yes, that should provide some relief.

Expert:  Dr. Jo replied 1 year ago.

Is there anything else I can help you with tonight?

Customer: replied 1 year ago.
I guess that is it thank you

Hello,

Just checking in to ask how Anoush is doing now. Is her nose better today? Did you end up taking her to the vet?

Please let me know how else I can help.

Thank you.
