Hello, and thanks for writing in.

Is he having any vomiting or breathing problems?

Expert:  David Janssen replied 1 year ago.

If he's not having any vomiting or breathing issues, you can give plain Benadryl (or the generic - diphenhydramine) at a dose of 1 mg per pound of body weight. So, if he weighs 75 pounds, you would give 75 mg of Benadryl. Benadryl typically comes in 25 mg capsules or tablets, so you would give 3 capsules (or tablets). It may cause drowsiness. If there is no improvement in the swelling within 1 hour, or if his symptoms are getting worse, he needs to be seen by a veterinarian right away for stronger treatment.
