My 10.9 lb mixed terrier is having a dental day after

Customer Question

My 10.9 lb mixed terrier is having a dental day after tomorrow at 9:00 am. . The vet gave me a 16 mg Cerenia Tab to give to her tomorrow with her evening meal. She has never had problems with vomiting after a dental before. According to the answer you gave the person with a 16 lb Dachshund, 16 mg would be too much for my small dog. Do I need to question my vet about this amount? What mg do you suggest for Pixie?

Hello,

Thanks for your question about Pixie. I am a veterinarian and will do my best to help.

If she needs the Cerenia, this would be a reasonable dose. Dogs can take up to 8 mg per kilogram of body weight (2.2 pounds) to prevent nausea and vomiting, that would be as much as 56 mg for her! So 16 mg as an oral dose is reasonable. It also has pain effects as well as for nausea. Let me know if I can help with anything else. Rebecca
