Ask a Dog Vet and Get Answers to Your Dog Veterinary Questions
I am sorry to hear about your setter's leg. I am a veterinarian and will do my best to help.
The answer is....yes and no. It is used for pain, swelling and inflammation in dogs, but can cause intestinal bleeding, stomach ulcers, blood thinning and vomiting. Some dogs tolerate it but some do not. I usually say to try it once, give with food, and if she stops eating or if she vomits, do not repeat it.
How much does she weigh? The dose is a baby aspirin or low dose aspirin per 15 to 20 pounds, once to twice daily. A regular strength (325 mg) aspirin is the same as 4 baby or low dose aspirin.
Do not give ibuprofen or Advil or Aleve, ever.
Let me know if this helps, and what other questions you have. Rebecca
