Customer Question

I mistakenly gave my 43 pound dog a 10 mg predisone after she had already taken one this morning. Should she skip her next dose, will this make her sick?

Hello, I'm Dr. Deb and will do my best to help you today.

I'm sorry for this concern for your dog. Even though she basically received a double dose of her medication, this wouldn't be considered a toxic dose for her. In fact, 20 mg at one time is a dose which might be prescribed for other diseases/conditions so it's not a terribly high one.

You might notice increased thirst, urination or hunger (commonly seen side effects which can be seen even with prescribed dosages of this drug) but I wouldn't expect any other significant side effects.

I would skip her evening's dose and restart as directed on the label tomorrow.

I hope this helps to reassure you that she'll be fine. Deb
