Customer Question

I'm not sure but I think that my Yorkshire terrier may have eaten a small piece of a styrofoam packing peanut. She seems to be fine but I'm wondering if there are symptoms that I should be looking for.

Hello and thanks for requesting me.

My name is***** I am an experienced small animal veterinary surgeon and I will be very pleased to work with you today and will try my best to answer your question to your satisfaction.

1. As long as it was just a small piece then the chances are it will just pass along Bella's digestive tract without problem.

2. However with a small dog it is possible that various sorts of ingested objects could possibly cause an intestinal tract obstruction. You would therefore be wise to monitor your dog for such signs as vomiting, lethargy, not eating, straining or abdominal pain and of course consult your vet without delay if any such symptoms do appear.

3. Giving her a teaspoon of pumpkin, { Not pumpkin pie filling, } twice a day for the next few days could help things move along.

I hope I have covered your question fully enough but if you would like further clarification or to talk things over a bit more then I will be on-line for the next hour or so and I will be more than pleased to continue working with you.

Regards,

Dr Scott
