My great dane has a skin infection, can I give her cephalexin?

Customer Question

My great dane has a skin infection, can I give her cephalexin? I have 500 mg capsules (dark/light green in color), she weighs 120lbs. I cannot afford a vet. If so, how much should I give her, how often, and for how long? Thank you!!

Hi, I'm a licensed veterinarian and I'll be happy to help.A 120lb dog would typically receive 2 to 3 capsules, every 12 hours, for a minimum of 14 days. If possible, using the higher dose is preferable (3 capsules). Given with food, the likelihood of stomach upset is reduced.
