This is a hypersensitivity reaction in the great majority of cases. Foods, envenomation by flying insects, environmental allergens such as pollens, molds, dust, and dust mites, etc., drugs, and vaccinations are common causes of such swelling. Antihistamines such as diphenhydramine (Benadryl) at a dose of 1-2 mg/lb (50 mg maximum dose at any one time) can be helpful. A corticosteroid such as prednisone will work faster and more completely if you happen to have such a drug at home. Please let me know.

Hi Mike,

I'm just following up on our conversation about Loca. How is everything going?
