Customer Question

My dog has dry nose heavy panting and back legs are stiff but still has feeling in both. Looks like maybe heat rash or bug bite on hind quarters.

I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner and I regret that I can't correspond with customers outside of this venue. It sounds as if more than one disorder exists concomitantly in Jacques. A dry nose has little significance but his heavy panting usually indicates pain. Stiff back legs suggest myelopathy - spinal cord disorder - such as intervertebral disk disease (a "slipped disk") in a 5 year old poodle although "stiff legs" is a difficult symptom to envision. Can you describe just how he's getting around, please? Is he ataxic ("drunken sailor")? Paretic (weak) or dragging his hind leg(s) when he walks? Finally, he may have flea bites on his hind quarters but they wouldn't explain "stiff legs".
