Customer Question

My 11 yr old chihuahua hasn't been eating more than once a day (I always feed her twice)& not drinking much since Sat.She threw up once on Monday. Today she won't eat at all, I have been browning ground chuck, so I made her favorite bacon! She won't touch it?? She seems shaky & is very lethargic, rapid heart rate about 180, respirations are about 60?

I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner. Five days of inappetence indicates having Peppy's vet thoroughly examine her and having diagnostics in the form of blood and urine tests as well as X-rays or ultrasound performed as indicated by her physical exam and testing. Her respiratory rate exceeds the normal of 40 breaths/minute at rest. Such tachypnea (increased respiratory rate) isn't pathognomonic (specifically indicative) of any one disorder but is worrisome for both lower respiratory and cardiovascular disorders (involving the heart and lungs) and metabolic disorders that result in metabolic acidosis (too low of a blood pH). I understand that you didn't come to this site to be told that Peppy needs to see her vet but that's the best advice I can give you at this time. I, too, would need to perform a thorough physical exam on Peppy including the testing I mentioned above. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
