My Yorkie has hurt her neck in the past jumping from high

Customer Question

Hi
My Yorkie has hurt her neck in the past jumping from high places. It appears that she may have done that again....is there anything I can do for her until Monday? I have given her a dog aspirin.
Thank you!
Dee

Hi, I can help you with your question today.
First, how much does Shay weigh? I would like to double check that aspirin dose.
Is she still able to walk and move her back legs?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
15 lbs
She is a larger Yorkie. She's not a heavy 15, just longer & taller
Than her 7lb parents.
Yes, she can walk & move,
Just doesn't lift her head up to look at me.
Thanks
Dee

OK, you can give the aspirin every 12 hours as needed for pain.
It is definitely best to have her evaluated by a local vet as soon as possible. They can prescribe additional medications to control her discomfort. In the future, rather than aspirin, I would prefer to use an oral steroid like prednisone in these cases - cervical (neck) IVDD generally responds better to steroids than NSAIDs.
Until you can get her to the vet, continue the aspirin and keep her activity restricted. No jumping, no stairs, use a harness to take her outside just long enough to urinate and defecate, then right back inside.
Please let me know if you have further questions. I am happy to continue until I provide the service that you seek.

Hi Dee,

I'm just following up on our conversation about Shay. How is everything going?
