Hi, I can help you with your question today.
As long as he is still eating and acting normally, most cases of kennel cough will resolve without any treatment at all. If he develops and yellow or green nasal discharge, labored breathing, decreased appetite or lethargy, he should be evaluated by your regular vet.
Otherwise, I recommend encouraging him to drink well to stay hydrated. You can encourage this with dilute chicken broth or water from a tuna can.
I do NOT recommend using a cough suppressant unless he has been on antibiotics for 3-4 days and the cough does not improve. The reason is that we want him to cough out any infectious particles that he can. If we give a cough suppressant, it can lead to more serious infection such as pneumonia.
