Customer Question

My dog is prescribed Tramadol 50 mg for pain (in addition to Rimadyl) and his prescription is running low (his pills are this: http://www.drugs.com/imprints/an-627-14580.html). With the holiday weekend I won't be able to reach his regular vet for a day or so, but I do have a bottle of Tramadol HCL 50 mg that was prescribed to me for a hip issue that I could give him (it's this: http://www.drugs.com/imprints/tv-58-17280.html).
I just want to make sure that the medicine prescribed to me is the same thing my vet prescribed to my dog and can be given interchangeably.

Hello, I'm Dr. Deb. I'll do my best to help you today.
The Tramadol that vets use is the same human one which is dispensed by physicians. It's exactly the same drug.
So, while it would be illegal for me to advise you to give Connor a drug which was dispensed for your use, I can confirm that the drugs are exactly the same thing.
I hope this helps. Deb
