My dog, we think, might have a foxtail in his ear. .. is he OK to wait til the vet opens Tuesday or is there something we can try in the meantime

Aloha! You're speaking to Dr. Michael Salkin
It's best to remove those as quickly as possible. They can be quite painful and they'll continue to migrate inward and often perforate the tympanum (ear drum). If he can't be seen promptly, I recommend filling his ear with heavy duty mineral oil (baby oil without the perfume) in an attempt to soften the point and fronds of that plant awn.
