Customer Question

My 4 year old billeting will not eat. This is very unusual for her. I did catch her with a pile of socks yesterday. She ate this morning but has been vomited. Has not and will not eat anything.

Aloha! You're speaking to Dr. Michael Salkin
I'm sorry that your question wasn't answered in a timely manner. If Faith's vomiting hasn't subsided by now and she remains anorexic, foreign body ingestion (the socks) needs to be considered because those symptoms are pathognomonic (particularly indicative) of foreign body ingestion. Her vet can X-ray or ultrasound Faith's abdomen in an attempt to spot ingested socks. If still in the stomach, they might be removed through a scope. If they've passed into her small intestine, however, surgical removal will be necessary.
There are many other causes of her behavior - too many to list in this venue. I'll usually give these dogs 36 hours to remiss unaided but if you believe that sock ingestion is likely with her, please don't wait that long to have her attended to by her vet. Please respond with further questions or concerns if you wish.
