In the past several weeks my 8 month old chocolate lab immediately

Customer Question

In the past several weeks my 8 month old chocolate lab immediately following eating has diarrhea. Today she would not eat her food.
Last night at 2AM and 3:30 she had diarrhea. Should I make her rice? Should we change food brands? If so to what?

Hello, I am sorry to hear you are worried about your Lab. I am a veterinarian, and will do my best to help. Has she been tested for worms and parasites?
Expert:  Rebecca replied 1 year ago.
Adding rice to her food, or feeding boiled chicken and rice may help. Adding probiotics (live beneficial bacterial supplements) to her food may also help. If she has parasites (not all parasites are worms) she may need a treatment for the particular parasite. Over the counter wormers will treat hookworms, roundworms, and tapeworms, but not whipworms or Giardia or Coccidia.

Our VET recently checked her for worms and there were none. How much rice should I give her?
Customer: replied 1 year ago.
At her last visit she was about 35-45 pounds

Her digestive issues started with her new bag of Blue Buffalo, do you think we should change foods? If so what is your recommendation
Expert:  Rebecca replied 1 year ago.
I would feed her 75% rice and 25% boiled chicken. I would start with 1/2 cup of this mixture, 2 to 3 times daily to start with. If the diarrhea improves, then try gradually adding her dog food. If her problems started with the Blue Buffalo, I would try something else, maybe what you were feeding before this started if that was something else.

If this persists, I like the diets specially made for diarrhea, like Royal Canin GI or Hills I/D. You can only get these at vet offices, or at Chewy.com

The medication (prescription) metronidazole can help with diarrhea. You could also try Imodium, 1 tablet twice daily.
