Hi. My 28lb. Boston Terrier has hives. This is the 3rd time

Hi. My 28lb. Boston Terrier has hives. This is the 3rd time in two years. The previous two times were treated at my local emergency vet. This time is very similar: not itchy, no breathing problems, eating and drinking. I gave her 25mg of Benadryl at 8pm. What time can I giver her another dose? Or...do I need to take her to the hospital?
Hello,
This is Dr. Christian. I'd like to help.

How long ago was 8pm for you (I'm in central time so for me that was 5 minutes ago)?
Are the hives all over her body?
Is her face swollen at all?

Hi Dr. Christian!
We are in Eastern time...it is now 9:07pm.
The hives seem to be only on her back and sides....only on her black fur. Her face, neck, ears, underbelly, and legs look ok.
I actually think she looks better already.
That's great news. It will take an hour or so for things to kick in so I think you can get by with giving the benadryl every 8 hours for the next 24 hours. If things don't improve or the hives come back then take her in. If you have more questions please reply back.

Hi Gina,

I'm just following up on our conversation about Momma. How is everything going?

Momma's great! Thank you for checking in. The hives were just about gone after two doses of the Benadryl. I gave it to her two more times just to be sure.

Still have no idea what caused them, and probably never will.

Nevertheless, she's completely recovered!

Thank you for your help…I would have gone to the emergency hospital if you thought it was necessary, I was just glad that it wasn't.
