Dog Health Questions? Ask a Dog Vet for Answers ASAP
Welcome! I am Dr. Altman, a licensed veterinarian and happy to answer your questions today.
So sorry to hear Sparky had a seizure
There are many causes of seizures in dogs
They can include toxic exposure/ eating something toxic, metabolic causes such as liver shunt, idiopathic meaning we do not know why (the most common cause), infectious, or tumor
It would be best for your veterinarian to do an examination and some bloodwork to rule out some of the causes of seizures
If it happens more than once in a month then medications will be instituted to prevent further seizures
If it does occur again, best is to videotape it for your veterinarian to see what happens
Also noting what he does prior to, how long it lasts, what he does after and how long it takes for him to return to normal
Great Thank You
Time of day, severity (meaning is he on his side paddling, responsive to you, urinates/ defecates) as well
You are very welcome
Can I assist with any additional questions today or clarify anything?
