Hi There,

I am Dr. Denise and I am glad to assist you.

Yes you can give him more of the medication . It would not hurt him to have as much as 7 tablets. I believe it has only 2 mgs of Prednisone in it so he could have 1 mg per pound of body Weight for severe itching.

I have been giving him half a pill at a time the last half pill was four hours ago, but he is going crazy can i give him a whole pill now

You can give him 5 whole pills. I/2 a pill does nothing much. That dose is used as a maintenance dose or a tapering dose when you are ending therapy.

five pills over what period of time? How much can I give him right now to relieve him.

You can give him all 5 pills at once that will only be a total of 10 mgs which is a very acceptable dose to control his itching. This drug has an antihistamine and prednisone a corticosteroid which is used in mild cases of pruritis ( itching). Your dog is going crazy with itch right now so he needs a high dose to control it. We need to know why he is itching that much. Is he on a god flea control??

Yes he is on revolution and it is up to date.. He has always had allergies at this time of year and we have given him 1/2 and pill in the am and the same in the evening for about a week and then down to 1/2 a pill a day for a few weeks and then tapered him off. But he has never been like this. I have noticed that there is a lot of rag weed around my son is also being bothered so I am fairly sure it is his allergies. So should I start with two pill since he has never had such a high does?

Yes, that is fine. If it does not work then give more. You do not need to be afraid of it for a few doses like this. You can go down to a lower dose when he stops itiching.

Allergies can be dreadful. If the intnese itching continues you might ask your vet about Atopica which is cyclosporin and does not have the objectionable side effects of long term prednisone.
