My 3-year-old dog (German Shepherd-Pit Bull mix) starting having hiccup-like spasms tonight. It's only when she's laying down. She's conscious and alert and responsive. But I can tell she's very uncomfortable. She seems to want to stand up and stand still. When she lays down, the spasms make her whole body twitch. I called my local vet and they don't think it's anything to worry about. I don't want to pay hundreds of dollars in emergency vet fees at 1:30AM if it's hiccups or something like that. But she's also not making any sort of sound, which is why I didn't think it was hiccups. Any ideas?

Hi,Welcome to Just Answer. I'm very sorry no one go to your question before I got on-line this morning. I hope things are going well with Lexi now. If you have that video, I'd be very curious to watch it. Can you post it on youtube for me to view?
Lexi is doing much better today. The spasms finally subsided after about an hour and a half, so she was finally able to go to sleep. I posted a couple clips on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nQcEPX6dz8&feature=youtube_gdata_playerhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iHVe1WksnKs&feature=youtube_gdata_playerhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hj2Pm4P4a80&feature=youtube_gdata_playerIf you have any insight as to what is going on, I would appreciate it!
Ok. Good job on the videos. After watching them, I actually feel that they look like hiccups. Even though she's not making any sounds when it is happening, it looks very much like a hiccup. With them resolving, that is good. It didn't look like a partial seizure as she was up and walking right after a round of them in the first clip. I wouldn't be too worried about these things at this time. I would monitor for future ones and see if they happen or not. If they do, I wouldn't be too excited with them.
