My 13 yr. old Pitt is having severe anxiety attacks at least twice a day. This just started in the last few months. She pants, drools, body trembles, forehead very warm (during attacks) and she follows me every where I go. She is miserable during these attacks and will not or drink water. She keeps us up at night and will not leave us alone. Could this be a reaction to dog flea meds?
Hi. I'm Dr. Gotthelf. I have been a vet for 33 years and I would like to use my experience to help you with your pet's medical problem.
I really doubt that any of the flea meds would do that. If she has fleas, she may be itchy and that will keep her up at night scratching. Your vet would need to examine her skin to determine if there is any inflammation or infection there.
Another possibility is a behavioral issue. I have used generic Prozac for a lot of anxiety problems in dogs. It is extremely safe and there are no side effects seen. It is given once a day every day. Ask your vet about that.
