I have a 8-week old Boston Terrier, female. I am wondering if she has Pneumonia because she is not eating anything today. She has played a little bit and is drinking water occasion-ally. I have been giving her 5 ml of Pedialyte every hour. Being that this is a Holiday, the vet I use is not in the office, it is closed for July 4th.She has runny stools that look almost yellow. She also has thrown up a couple of times this morning, it is clear with some yellowish-looking phlem in it. The Emergency Vet won't be in until 6:00 p.m. tonight. I am really worried about her, but I have no choice but to wait until then to carry her. What can I do for her that would help her until I can get her to the vet? She ate good yesterday, but was kind of sneezing off and on. The amount of clear liquid that came from her was coming from her mouth and nose. She gets watery eyes when this occurs. These are all the symptoms I can think of at this time. She was in the bathroom with me when I sprayed my hair last week and was also introduced to some dust as well. Could this be the cause of the suspected Pneumonia?I really appreciate any advice you can provide me. Thank you,Teresa Green

Good Morning and welcome to Just answer. I am Dr. Loretta, a licensed veterinarian and I am happy to answer your question.
There are 2 things that Desiree may be suffering from. The first is a mild digestive disturbance common in young puppies because they do ingest odd things that could cause this even though you may not have noticed. This vomiting and diarrhea are caused by this. This could also be an allergic reaction......this can cause this digestive disturbance along with the sneezing....this can be caused by an insect bite and will show these types of symptoms especially since she is so young. For now, give her Benadryl at 1 mg per pound. Use the infant liquid form since you can get a much smaller dose this way. Allow her to fast to allow her digestive tract to calm down and continue giving the Pedialyte at 5 ml per hour which you have been doing. AS long as you can keep her hydrated until Desiree can get to the vet, she will be fine....does that make sense to you? Even if this is not an allergic reaction, the Benadryl will not hurt her....Good Luck, Teresa! Please let me know if you have other questions. Thanks!
