Hello,My two dogs were playing (one big lab and a small Boston) and they got into a fight. The lab nicked the Boston's left eyelid... or it appears that way. We got the bleeding to slowdown, but every so often when we look at her, her eye is red with blood. Her actual eyeball is not scratched, bleeding or torn... there is just a SMALL "tear" on her bottom eyelid right where it touches the eye. Is there something I can put on it? Should I take her to the emergency vet? I am going to the vet tomorrow for my other Boston, so I could bring her then, but if this is serious, I want to take care of it now.Thank you!

HI there
If the gash is wide/deep enough a suture may be needed! THere is a critical period in which this should be done so the area can heal properly. In that case se would need to see the emergency vet as waiting utnil tomorrow would be too long.
Chances are they will put your baby on an antibiotic eye ointment to help the area to heal and keep it from getting infected.
It really isn't big. It is VERY small and I wouldn't even call it a gash.
The bleeding should stop if you apply getle pressure to the area-but dont push on the eye ball. SO try applying gentle pressure with her eye closed.
However, what I am worried about is the possibility of an infection.
The bleeding has pretty much stopped.
The antibiotic eye ointment would be beneficial-which you would have to get from the vet.

So you think we should go to the animal hospital now for the antibiotic? The bleeding has stopped, but I am worried about infection.
I would , I would rather play it safe. and we need to be sure a stitch is not needed.
Okay, thank you very much.
lgood luck-hopefully all she needs is the ointment.
