Welcome to JustAnswer, this is Dr. Christie.
I am a licensed veterinarian and would like to help you with Tommy.
How long has Tommy had diarrhea?
Did he eat something different for him recently?
Yes you can give Immodium to Tommy. We dose about 0.05-0.1 mg per pound body weight. So this means Tommy can have 5-10 mg of Immodium by mouth every 8 hours for up to 48 hours.
Some possible side effects include bloating, constipation, and sedation.
just the 2 bouts 1 at 4 a and 1 at 9a---- no vomiting. The only thing different is a milo's kitchen treat. he has eaten this befote with no problem. he is only leash walked so he hasn't picked anything up
If the diarrhea gets worse or is not cleaing up despite the Immodium, make sure to get Tommy into your vet's office for a checkup as there may be more going on. Also make sure he is drinking plenty of fluids because being an older dog with fluid losses, especially in hot weather can get dehydrated pretty quickly
Sounds like an acute upset stomach, so the Immodium should be a good choice for him!
Best wishes for a speedy recovery for Tommy!
how much immodium can i give him he is 100 lbs
Do you have liquid or tablets?
Do you know how many mg per ml or per tablet?
thanks.I will low dose and follow with my vet if necessary. He has had something like this several months ago.
I have tabs 2 mgm loperamide
Ok, so maybe start with 2.5 tabs of the loperamide for Tommy and see how he does. He can have up to 5 tabs if need be every 8 hours.
