My dog I suspect has mange and I am hurting for money. Do I need to get her to a veterinarian? Or is there something I can do from home? Is this a symptom of something worse?
Optional Information: Type of Animal: Tibetan Terrier rescue/mix Gender: Female Age: app 11 Name of Dog: Annie Already Tried: Hydrogen peroxide wash and benedryl in case it was allergies. This began when we moved into new place where the grass is different and they put fertilizer on the ground. Both of my dogs began reacting different then they had ever before. My dachshund has hair loss on her belly but not redness and scabs like my tibetan.
Welcome to JustAnswer! I am a licensed veterinarian and would be glad to help!
Can you describe the illness you are seeing?
Her skin is red on inside of legs some behind the ears and on her buttocks area. There are some scabs from her chewing at it but no blood. She gets some relief from hydrogen peroxide baths
Unfortunately if this is mange, either sarcoptic or demodex, unfortunately there is no at-home treatment for this.
I have seen many cases where clients try at-home care...
What happens?
- They spend more money on treatment that doesnt work...than the right treatment
AND
- By the time their dog comes in...it has spread, the skin is worse, the infection is worse...and they spend more money then trying to heal the problem.
For this reason, well worth your time, effort, money, and often sanity - to have this diagnosed and treated now - early - before it gets worse.
Thank you
You are very welcome
