I am making home made dog food mostly chicken. What is the portion size for a 35 and 40 pound dog?I feed 2 x day.
Welcome to JustAnswer! I am a licensed veterinarian and would be glad to help!
For a dog of this weight, 40 pounds, it would be approximately 4-5 average sized, white meat chicken breasts per day (bone and skin removed)
This is based on a 40 pound dog's normal caloric intake.
Every dog's metabolism is different and this may vary based on the specific dog, as it would a human being.
ok, they aren't getting that much. That is a lot of food. It won't make them sick to eat that much?
As listed above, every dog is different, but based on the calculation used for resting energy requirement in dogs, and at 40 pounds that would be the strict calculation based on a medium sized white meat chicken breast.
ok, I will do that. Approx 2-2 1/2 breasts twice a day for my sick corgi. I am adding vegetables and some blueberry to his diet. Does that sound ok?
That is correct based on calorie count.
Good luck!
