Thanks for the question. My name is XXXXX X am an experienced small animal veterinary surgeon and I will be pleased to try and answer your question, but to enable me to do so with accuracy I need to know a little bit more information, so first can you answer the following questions concisely. 1. Is this because she is tired and lethargic or is it an eye condition in your estimation?2. Any other symptoms no matter how trivial? This is just an information request for which you have not been charged, I am online at present and will answer your question shortly after receiving your reply. Scott Scott Nimmo BVMS, MRCVS. Please note it may take up to twenty minutes for me to consider your problem, perhaps look up some information and then type up your reply.

Thanks for the quick reply. While I cannot diagnose Wrangler's problem via the internet I can make the following general comments : Having carefully read your question I would say that the most likely thing Wrangler would be suffering from is conjunctivitis which is an eye infection sometimes called red eye or pink eye. { Bear in mind though that a range of other diagnosis are also possible }Conjunctivitis in the dog is easy to spot, the whites of your dog's eyes will be red to some degree, the mucous membranes may be swollen and there may or may not be a discharge and your dog may well experience problems opening the lids. There are really two forms to consider.1. Primary conjunctivitis : This is where the infection is in the eyes only, it is usually bacterial in origin although viruses and other organisms can be involved. It will usually respond quickly to antibiotic eye drops put in the eye two or three times a day for five days or so. { This is the likely form in your case as Wrangler is otherwise bright and normal } 2. But secondary conjunctivitis is also possible : This is where the eye problem is secondary to another disease process such as distemper for example. In these case your dog will be showing other symptoms as well which would be likely to be of more concern than the eye discharge. Here is a link to a site which has more information on conjunctivitis : LINKMy advice to you has to be take Wrangler to the vet and have her checked out so you can have the diagnosis confirmed and a suitable treatment started. However I can tell you how I would handle such a case if it turns out to be an uncomplicated conjunctivitis. I would prescribe a pure antibiotic eye drop to be applied three or four times a day for five days. Unfortunately these are normally prescription products which you cannot get over the counter.Until you can get to the vet you would usually do no harm by irrigating her eyes with luke warm water four or five times a day.If I have not covered your question fully enough or you would like to ask more I will be online for the next hour or so and I will be at your disposal.Scott Scott Nimmo BVMS, MRCVS.
