Welcome to JustAnswer! I am a licensed veterinarian and would be glad to help!

CriticalCareVet :

Is this new or chronic in nature?

CriticalCareVet :

What color is the discharge from the nose?

Customer:

chronic and usually clear

CriticalCareVet :

Ok - this is not uncommon in this breed,.

CriticalCareVet :

Based on the conformation of their nose.

CriticalCareVet :

If severe and bothersome - Often in these cases we consider treatments such as steroids (Prednisone - LINK HERE) or antihistamines such as Benadryl (LINK HERE).

CriticalCareVet :

If the discharge was yellow, white, or green - the concern would be more for an infection -and antibiotics used.

CriticalCareVet :

Common antibiotics to consider in these cases includes:

- Clavamox (LINK HERE)
- Azithromycin (LINK HERE)

CriticalCareVet :

Customer:

being constant it becomes annoying cause its every minute or less, especially licking of the tongue

CriticalCareVet :

This is why If severe and bothersome - Often in these cases we consider treatments such as steroids (Prednisone - LINK HERE) or antihistamines such as Benadryl (LINK HERE).

CriticalCareVet :

Unfortunately - this is a breed related issue, not specific to your dog - seen with Brachycephaly and a the pushed in nose.

Customer:

this problem has been since birth and has not changed. the agitation and loud panting is the same, the dog doesnt know how to relax or to accept gentle loving . is this all related to the shih tzu?

CriticalCareVet :

Yes - this is common with this breed.

Customer:

the prednisone link sends a 404 file not found error So to answer all the questions is ther e anything that can help to reduce or lessen the symptoms of the breed?

CriticalCareVet :

CriticalCareVet :

That is an updated link

CriticalCareVet :

Those are the common recommendations used here.

CriticalCareVet :

Good luck!

Customer:
