If Xena had a heavy worm burden or if the tape worm infection were long standing (so that the tapeworm had grown to a large size), you may see the worms passed in the stool. However, this wouldn't be the case if the infection is not severe and often the worms are contained within the stool, so you may not see them unless you actually broke it apart to search for them.
The medication works within about 1 hour.
If tapeworm is your primary concern, one time dosing is all that is needed to eliminate the infection. Be sure to treat for fleas, as well, since this is a common source of tapeworms.
If you are also concerned about roundworm and hookworm, Xena should be dosed 2 more times- 2 weeks from the first dose, and again 2 weeks after that. For these parasites, the de-wormer kills only the adult worms. Subsequent doses are needed so that any eggs
or larvae remaining are killed once they reach the adult stage.
