I have a 15 week old lab mix puppy. She was vaccinated with Coughgard Vac on 10/11/11. I was exposed to Bordetella at work as a medical tech in the hospital E.R. before 9/28/11. I had the booster shots before employment. Could the pup have gotten Bordetella from me? She has a loud hacking,gagging cough x 2 days.

Hello, I am Dr. Peter a licensed Veterinarian. I would like to help.Bordetella Bronchiseptica rarely affects humans; very unlikely you were the carrier. Though your dog was vaccinated toward B. bronchiseptica there are other bacterias and viruses that cause similar upper respiratory symptoms like mycoplasm, pseudomonas, e. coli, streptococcus, etc. She could have gotten sick with another bug. You can give her 1/2 teaspoon of Robitussin DM (cough) every 6 hours. Follow up with your veterinarian she may need oral antibiotics.
