Customer Question

My dog is pooping a thick gelatinous discharge with some faint blood in it. The discharge is dark brown and fairly loose. It barely smells, should I be worried?

Hi there

That doesn't sound good. Yes, you should be worried. If this progresses to blood then you must go to the emergency facility right away. In the mean time start a bland diet of 3 parts of boiled white rice to 1 part boiled chicken breast and give him some Kaopectate. 1 teaspoon per 15 pounds of body weight 4 times a day.

Should I take her to the emergency room right now? She seems in a good mood can it wait until morning? What other medicines can I give her since I dont have Kaopectate?

I think you can wait til morning. Do you have pepto Bismol or Pepcid?

Pepto Bismol

OK then give about 5 mls (1 teaspoon) per 15 pounds of body weight every 6 hours.
