Is this something your veterinarian prescribed?

No but my dog is 12 and has had problems with his skin his entire llife. I am an RN with access to prednisone and would like to help him without running to the vet every time this happens. He weighs 78# XXXXX I am dosing him with 50-75 mg of benadryl but it doesn't seem to be calming it down.

Hi there,

Regarding the benadryl, 75mg every 8 hours is the correct dose.

Regarding the prednisone - since this was not prescribed to your dog, I can not legally recommend this.

It is best to speak to your veterinarian about this.

Here is information on prednisone (LINK) that should help!
