my new puppies breath smells like skunk. What does this mean? She also has very soft light colored poop today.

Hello- I'm Dr. B a licensed veterinarian and I'd like to try to help you and Sweetie. Are you still there?
yes..hello
Hi! How long have you had her? Has her breath always been bad or is this a change?
Just a change today..we got her on Saturday.
Still eating OK?
She eats pretty good. We notice that she leaves some food. Likes training treats.
The first thing that comes to mind is the baby teeth falling out and the adult teeth starting to erupt. This starts aroudn 4 mos old. As the baby's teeth roots decay, there is sometimes an odor. It uwually starts with the incisors....have you noticed new incisors erupting?
no. what do i look for in that situation. Would there be a drastic change in a day w/ smell?
her stool seems lighter and smells as well
Basically you just look at the front teeth- the little ones. It's pretty easy to tell if the new ones oare coming in..... This could also be a GI issue. Any diet change?
she came to us on doxycycline to prophilax for kennel cough..thats what they told us
we are feeding her wellness puppy.
her last pill was today
The meds shouldn't cause a probem with the breath. And wellness puppy is fine. But is that the food she came to you on or did you change it?
we changed it..they were feeding her something like alpo
Good call on changing it! But that COULD be the problem as well. While her system adjusts to the new diet, she could have gas, loose stool and bad breath. If thats all it is, it should subside in a week or so.....
that sounds good...thank you so much.
If she actually starts acting sick ( not eating, vomiting, etc) then she should be seen by you r vet. Otherwise, just give it time.....Good Luck!
ok..Thanks. :)
