Increased thirst and loss of appetite can be caused by many things in a dog this age. Kidney problems, fever, infection, diabetes, anemia, arthritic pain, some cancers and adrenal gland disorders are all possible. The shaking can be associated with pain or many of the other causes listed above. Blood and urine tests are needed to rule most of causes. Treatment depends on what is found.
