Dr. BJ Hughes :

Welcome to Just Answer.

Dr. BJ Hughes :

Hi there --

Dr. BJ Hughes :

Stomach growls, gurgles, and makes noises usually do to the stomach wall contracting with only gas ans fluid present.

JACUSTOMER-uyyrx4zl- :

hi

JACUSTOMER-uyyrx4zl- :

it is very loud right now

Dr. BJ Hughes :

By itself, this is not a big problem -- unless it is constant or excessive or accompanied by vomiting, gagging, etc.

Dr. BJ Hughes :

You can alleviate this with a small meal

Dr. BJ Hughes :

or if the gas amount seems excessive or if bloat may be present.

JACUSTOMER-uyyrx4zl- :

nothing like that...it's just that it never happened before

JACUSTOMER-uyyrx4zl- :

he's a little bloated

JACUSTOMER-uyyrx4zl- :

he already had his meal

JACUSTOMER-uyyrx4zl- :

what do i have to watch for to know if he's getting worse?

Dr. BJ Hughes :

What breed is your dog, and how old?

JACUSTOMER-uyyrx4zl- :

he's a m ixture of german shepherd and husky according to my vet....my late husband found him in a ditch dying aqlmost 3 yrs ago...

JACUSTOMER-uyyrx4zl- :

we took him in and saved him

Dr. BJ Hughes :

Is there any pain when you press on the abdomen or massage it deeply? and has appetite been ok?

JACUSTOMER-uyyrx4zl- :

the last few days he was not eating much and yes, he lets me massage his abdomen

JACUSTOMER-uyyrx4zl- :

but he's used to me fussing all over him

JACUSTOMER-uyyrx4zl- :

his abdomen is hard

Dr. BJ Hughes :

ok -- you can administer either pepcid ac (3-5 mg per pound) or gas x (half strip, or one tablet) to alleviate gas that is present. Since this has gone on for a few days, there may be something else behind this -- so an exam may be necessary if this does not help.

Dr. BJ Hughes :

Pepcid ac can reduce acid and bloating -- and help with some general upset stomach issues.

JACUSTOMER-uyyrx4zl- :

i have gas x

Dr. BJ Hughes :

You can use it twice daily -- usually with meals.

JACUSTOMER-uyyrx4zl- :

sorry, just want to make sure...i can give gim pepcid ac or gas x ...the one we use as humans...sorry

Dr. BJ Hughes :

You can try the gas X --- to reduce gas immediately. You may want to trial Pepcid ac for the next couple of days to see if this addresses the appetite, growling tummy, gas.

JACUSTOMER-uyyrx4zl- :

just want to make sure

Dr. BJ Hughes :

That is correct -- the human forms

JACUSTOMER-uyyrx4zl- :

i see...

JACUSTOMER-uyyrx4zl- :

i'll mix it with his meals or treat?

Dr. BJ Hughes :

If there are additional symptoms -- vomiting, pain in the abdomen, increased bloating and pain, diarrhea, or this not improving -- then a vet visit is necessary.

Dr. BJ Hughes :

Yes -- either can be mixed with a small treat.

JACUSTOMER-uyyrx4zl- :

ok...thanks so much i'll try it right now

Dr. BJ Hughes :

You are very welcome -- this is the first thing to try -- after that, if any of the above symtoms are occuring -- a vet visit is recommended. It is an emergency if there is abdominal pain.

Dr. BJ Hughes :

I hope this information helps!
