Dr. Christie :

Welcome to JustAnswer, this is Dr. Christie.

Dr. Christie :

Has your dog had any trauma-a fall, stumble, hit, etc today?

Dr. Christie :

Has he eaten anything he shouldnt have in the past 24 hours?

Dr. Christie :

Is he walking slowly and guarded?

JACUSTOMER-4eezkkq5- :

He seems like he has had trouble jumping on the things today but no fall that I know of. I also don't think he has eaten anything but again not sure. He is walking fine--we went for a walk earlier and he seemed fine.

Dr. Christie :

any vomiting or diarrhea?

JACUSTOMER-4eezkkq5- :

no

Dr. Christie :

has he ever had any back problems in the past?

JACUSTOMER-4eezkkq5- :

no back problems. he is usually very energetic but even with trick or treaters coming over he isn't getting up

Dr. Christie :

if you look at his gums, what color are they?

JACUSTOMER-4eezkkq5- :

the top are pink and the bottoms are reddish-brown (he has an underbite)

Dr. Christie :

ok good!

Dr. Christie :

any problems breathing

Dr. Christie :

?

JACUSTOMER-4eezkkq5- :

nope.

JACUSTOMER-4eezkkq5- :

i thought he was cold at first so i put on a dog sweater and wrapped him in a blanket, and he is laying on me, but he is still shivering.

Dr. Christie :

ok good!

Dr. Christie :

Thank you for the information.

Dr. Christie :

While his symptoms don't point out one particular problem, I suspect he might be sore or painful.

Dr. Christie :

He may have pulled a muscle in his back or may be starting to experience problems with his back.

Dr. Christie :

shivering can also mean they are painful or uncomfortable or not feeling well

Dr. Christie :

his lethargy may be that he doesnt want to move to cause any more pain.

Dr. Christie :

The good news is his vital signs are all good-his color is normal, no problems breathing, and no vomiting or diarrhea.

Dr. Christie :

I would keep him quiet tonight-no running, jumping up or down off of things, or stairs.

Dr. Christie :

You can offer him a warm heating pad on his back for comfort.

Dr. Christie :

Do not give him any OTC medications as they are not safe for him.

Dr. Christie :

I would get him checked up by your vet tomorrow.

Dr. Christie :

If he is starting to have back pain, your vet can prescribe him safe pain meds

JACUSTOMER-4eezkkq5- :

Is is ok for me to leave him home alone tomorrow while I am at work?

Dr. Christie :

if he seems worse in the morning, I would consider contacting your vet to have him seen, maybe even set up a droff off appt with him

Dr. Christie :

if he seems better, I would try and keep him somewhere where he will be comfortable an unable to jump up and down off of things

JACUSTOMER-4eezkkq5- :

ok. THANK YOU!!!

Dr. Christie :

you are most welcome!

Dr. Christie :

best wishes for a speedy recovery for your little guy!
