Dr. Christian K. :

Hello,

This is Dr. Christian. Welcome to JustAnswer. How much does she weigh? Does she take any medications or have other medical conditions? Is she putting any weight on the leg? Is she acting normal otherwise?

JACUSTOMER-hep4rbd4- :

she weighs about 23lbs. she is very healthy and active. she is four years old and does not take any meds.

Dr. Christian K. :

You can try giving her 1/2 of a 325mg buffered aspirin tonight for pain. An ice pack on the sore area for 10 minutes or so might also help. Only give her one dose of aspirin, your vet might want to try other pain medications tomorrow.

JACUSTOMER-hep4rbd4- :

ok, thanks! i wanted to make sure that is ok for her before i gave her anything. it is strange because sometimes she walks around and at times she just lays around. i figure that is a sprain. what is a buffered asprin?

Dr. Christian K. :

Aspirin can be buffered so that it doesn't cause as much stomach upset. It will say on the label. Avoid enteric coated, dogs don't digest that well.

JACUSTOMER-hep4rbd4- :

sounds good, thanks for the advice!

Dr. Christian K. :

You are welcome. Good luck.
