Resolved Question:

My dog is 13 years old and has chronic diarrhea. He has become a picky eater so I give him human food. He's down to skin and bones. I don't want to put him down which is why I haven't taken him to a vet and also lack of money. He is a male pit bull. Please give me some hope.

Given his age we worry about possible cancer or organ failure, But it could be something more benign. Does the diarrhea appear to have undigested food in it?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
No, not at all. It just seems like water.
Expert:  Dr. Lazarcheff replied 6 years ago.
Well it seems like the food is being digested but with him eating but still loosing weight, it's more like he isn't absorbing the nutrition. Are there any foods he does better with?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
He does great with all kinds of meat including fish. No matter what though, it still comes out like water.

sorry I got called away from the computer.

Without any diagnostics its hard to know what will or will not work, but you might try a bland diet.

to feed a homemade bland diet add 1 cup BOILED hamburger or ground lamb (pour off the liquid) or 1 cup diced BOILED, SKINLESS chicken breast to 1 cup cooked white rice. Add 1/4-1/2 cup low fat cottage cheese. Feed 4 to 6 meals daily.

You might also try some Pepto Bismol, How much does the dog weigh?
Customer: replied 6 years ago.
He weighs about 50 lbs. Does he have to have the white rice? Can it be substituted with something else? White rice is one thing he'll have nothing to do with. How often do I give him pepto and for how long?
Expert:  Dr. Lazarcheff replied 6 years ago.
Hi again,

rice is a good source of fiber and carbohydrate. Maybe try brown rice? As for the Pepto, try about a tea spoon every 8 hours.
