Customer Question

can u give dogs amoxicillin?

Optional Information:
Type of Animal: schitzu
Gender: m
Age: 2
Name of Dog: Bradie

Already Tried:
My do got his front paw caught under the wheel of our truck last night and it took some hide off and he lost one of his toe nails. I called our vet to see him but I can't pay till Friday due to some other unexpected expenses last week. Our vet clinic refused to see him because I couldn't pay at time of service. I cleaned his wounds with sterile sodium chloride and put some neosporin on the wounds. I wrapped it in sterile gauze and vet wrap over top of it but I am really scared it may get infected. Can I give him amoxicillin?

You can give amoxicillin to dogs and it is commonly given for soft tissue injuries. common dosages range from 5-10mg/pound twice daily.

Hope this helps,
Dave

Customer replied 1098 days and 7 hours ago.

Should I continue to clean it every day and keep it wrapped up? also is there anything else I should be doing with his toenail? Should I continue with the neosporin?

Thank you so much, I am just worried sick about him. His is getting up and going outside to use the restroom and he has let me move it. It doesn't seem to be broken. He has been jumping up on the couch to get in his little spot on the back of the couch to sleep. He has also been walking around the house some, not a lot but he is getting up.

Probably not much you can do with the nail if it is completely broken off, given time it should grow back. Keep it clean and apply the neosporin, you can wrap it for a couple of days then I tend to leave them exposed to the air, as long as there is no drainage from the wounds, so they will dry more
