A few questions to help me answer your question better. What makes you think your dog is constipated? Is he straining? What have his stools looked like....firm? any blood? Is he neutered? Is he eating and acting okay?Dr. Stacy
yes, he's been straining for a couple of days. I think there's a blockage, but don't have the thousand or two to find out. He's middle is very hard and ridged a keeps getting bigger. It's been this way for at least a year. I have a wonderful Vet here. He asked me "if I wanted to go there ?" He said Cody is a happy boy and still lives to eat, leave him alone. I want to try something like milk of mag, i just haven't called my vet yet. He is neutered. 13yrs next month. When he does go, lately its runny and not much.
Milk of mag is not going to be harmful unless you use it long term. 3 days or so is fine. My questions where because most dogs that strain do some from diarrhea and I'm not sure the milk of Mag will help that. The diarrhea causes the colon to become inflammed. A dose of Pepto Bismol may be better. That is also something you don't want to give for more than 3 days in a row. Hope that helpsDr. Stacy
