Hi there,

Thank you for your post!

I would recommend being proactive. Grapes are unpredictable in dogs. Some dogs can eat grapes their entire lives as treats and have no problems.

Other dogs have a few grapes and go into irreversible kidney failure.

I would recommend going to the local ER (if your vet is not open today) where they can run basic bloodwork to check the kidney values and start your dog on IV fluids for diuresis for the next 24-48 hours, making sure your dogs kidney values do not change and there is no evidence of kidney failure.

Please let me know if this helps and guides you or if you have further questions.

I just talked to a local vet and he disagrees..Says the dog at 80#'s would haved to eat a heck of a lot more than 2 or 3 grapes.

Grapes and Raisins cause an idiosyncratic renal tubular necrosis. As I said above - there are some dogs that eat 1 or 2 grapes and go into renal failure.

Since we do not know the mechanism of toxicity - I always recommend being safe...rather than being sorry...

Good luck...
