I have 0.5 mg xanax and I have 1 mg ativans(lorazepam).

OK, you can safely use the Xanax, I'd recommend 1 to 2 tablets, start with one and see how it affects him, you could give 2 if there's no effect from 1. I wouldn't recommend using Ativan.

With that being said, Xanax is a safe drug in most circumstances, it's just important to be aware that dogs with aggressive tendencies can become dangerous with any sedative in their system.
