How much phenergan can a 42 lb dog have

How much phenergan can a 42 lb dog have?
Phenergan (generically known as promethazine) is dosed in dogs at 1 mg/kg of body weight. In a 42 pound dog, this would be 19 mg. This is not a commonly used medication in dogs, so I advise you consult with your vet prior to administering it.

Thank you for such a rapid response.

He is dying and will probably be put to sleep tomorrow or the next day. He is so thirsty but throws up after drinking even small amounts and can/will not try any kind of food. Is the phenergan apt to have some side effects that would cause him greater distress. We just want him to be as comfortable as possible until the vet can come to put him out of his misery. We brought him home because we did not want him to die alone in a kennel.

thanks again.Customerbr />
In that case, you can go ahead and try it. The main side effect is central nervous system depression, and at this point, a bit of sedation may not be such a bad idea, especially if we can help to potentially also quell nausea. Good luck, and I am sorry for your and your dog's circumstances.
