How long does it take for sutures to dissolve?

Customer Question

It's been 5 days since my dog got spayed. She has dissolvable sutures. How long will it take for them to dissolve?

Usually they are pretty much dissolved by the time the area is healed within 10-14 days. But some dogs just reject them and make a knot of tissue around them, or eventually pop the knots out through the skin, rather than dissolving them.

Make sure you don't immerse the area in water or allow her to lick the area as that can hasten suture dissolving before the tissue is fully knit back together.

If you have any doubts about how the incision looks do contact your vet.
Hope this helps you!
