Customer Question

The defrost will only defrost the lower part of my windshield
JA: What is the model/year of your Dodge?
Customer: 2014 ram 1500 5.7L hemi
JA: Are you fixing your Ram 1500 yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: The only thing I've tried is to change the air filter
JA: How has your mileage been lately? Have you checked the spark plugs?
Customer: The truck only has 32,000 miles
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: The heat kicks slow but it does warm up and the defrost does have air blowing out and it is hot just won't defrost the windshield

Hi, my name is ***** ***** i will assist you. Which air filter did you change, the engine filter or the cabin filter?

Customer: replied 10 days ago.
The air filter under the hood not the cabin filter
Customer: replied 10 days ago.
No its fine
Expert:  Joshua Haynes replied 10 days ago.

I gotcha. And you say that the air is getting hot but only the bottom half of the windshield is getting cleared? Do you mean that there is still ice on the top or it is just foggy?

Customer: replied 10 days ago.
It's just foggy
Customer: replied 10 days ago.
The vent has been kicking hard and the air is hot but it will only defrost the small area where the air comes out of
Expert:  Joshua Haynes replied 10 days ago.

When this happens, it is usually because the air conditioning is not working properly. I know it seems counter-intuitive but the defrost system sparingly utilizes the air conditioning system in order to remove the moisture from the windshield that causes the fog. Do you know if your a/c is working?

Customer: replied 10 days ago.
Yea My ac works perfectly fine
Expert:  Joshua Haynes replied 10 days ago.

If that is the case, I am afraid that I don't have any idea why the windshield would be foggy with strong, hot air and working a/c. I will opt out and let another expert try to put in their two cents...

If there is a problem this should be covered under factory warranty, I would schedule an appointment with the dealer. You may have a mode door problem that is not allowing all of the air to reach the top of the glass.
