1999 dodge RAM 3500 diesel engine 5.9 ...I have code p1694

Customer Question

1999 dodge RAM 3500 diesel engine 5.9 ...I have code p1694 and don't know what it affects. The RPM is going up and down more less 50 or 100 RPM but not all the time. This happens only driving 50 to 60 miles per hour not on idle. One time it accelerate from 1500 RPM to 3000 RPM but just the engine, like if it went to neutral and back to normal

Code P1694 is a code the PCM will set to let you know that there is a code stored in another module.

From the sound of what you described, your torque converter is not staying locked in lock up mode.

What can I check to be sure what's wrong?

Expert:  Chad replied 1 month ago.

The first thing would be a scan tool that can read the other modules, like the factory DRBIII.

And monitor torque converter lock up while driving.

p1693 is there also...what is a normal torque converter readings?

Normally, it locks up and does not unlock unless you touch the brake pedal, or slow down below a certain speed once it has gone into lock up.
