It was going fine then when I was pulling a small I couldn't

Customer Question

It was going fine then when I was pulling a small hill I couldn't accelerate and my check engine light went to blinking. I coasted for another 1/4 mile and got her off the road. It started back up a time or two but it wouldn't stay running.
JA: Does the light stay on, or does it blink?
Customer: It has been on for a while but it was blinking.
JA: What is the model/year of your Dodge?
Customer: 2001 dodge Intrepid with a 2004 engine 2.7
JA: Are you fixing your Intrepid yourself? What have you tried so far?
Customer: My husband thought it might be a crankshaft sensor so we put one on off of a 2001 dodge intrepid but that didn't work. Now we have tore into it to see if the timing had jumped but it looks good.
JA: Anything else you want the mechanic to know before I connect you?
Customer: We're not sure if it is the brain box or maybe some clogged tubes running into the top.

the blinking check engine light is multiple random misfire ,which telling you that the misfire is severe and it will cause engine or catalyst damage

what is the mileage ?

when was it last tuned up ?

the misfire could be several reason from a spark plug, vacuum leak to a weak fuel pump

do you have a diagnostic scanner that you can retrieve fault codes ?

your local parts store like advance auto or auto zone will scan for free if you dont have one

Please let me know

Thank You

This engine has aprox 200,000 miles on it. I'm not sure when it was last tuned up.

I do not have a diagnostic scanner. My car is on a trailer with the bumper, head gaskets, harmonic balancer, etc. off.

so i guess you mean before you took apart you had that issue ?

Customer: replied 9 months ago.
What do you call the roundish plastic piece that sits on top of my engine?
Expert:  Chad Farhat replied 9 months ago.

My car wouldn't start and acted like it jumped time. That is why we took it apart.
Customer: replied 9 months ago.
I attaching a picture of a similar engine. The two tubes that run into the back of the roundish thing on top were plugged up - could that cause my problem?

you probably know it is a common issue on the 2.7 liter engine

I would replace the engine or do a complete rebuild on it ,since you already have apart

there is a class action law suit on this issue .

The 2.7L DaimlerChyrlser Engine

In some engines, oil sludge is nearly unpreventable due to a defect in the crankcase ventilation system or, in the case of DaimlerChrysler's 2nd generation 2.7L V6 engines, water pump.

Owners report that a poorly designed water pump allows internal coolant leakage which leads to oil sludge. Even with careful, regular maintenance, these engines are experiencing catastrophic failure.

The defective 2.7L engine is found in many 1998-2005 Dodge and Chrysler vehicles.
